Michael Gard was born in Gary, Indiana in 1970 and has called Valparaiso, Indiana home since 1995. He also has spent nearly two years of the past decade intermittently living in Skagway, Alaska, which also feels like home.  A graduate of Indiana University in 1991, Gard chose to pursue his passion in photography and continue professional development in photojournalism.  After two decades he has accumulated memorable award-winning moments of human nature and is considered an expert among peers. Alongside his photojournalism successes, commercial photography enhances his portfolio to include images for publications, books, and catalogs. In 2002, Michael Gard aimed his career in the direction of his artistic eye as a Fine Artist.

His lens captures vital geometric compositional elements and transforms them into states of natural wonder. Landscapes become abstract paintings and Nature comes to personify Man. His work provides a modern narrative of Man’s connections and harmony within the constructs of nature. He is a master of disguise in spatial perception through implied movement, texture, and details.  Like a true artist, Michael Gard speaks from his own platform about the world around him in a way like no other.
